What hardware you need
Tablets, printers, cash drawers and card readers — what works today and what is coming.
DineStack runs on ordinary Android tablets. There is no DineStack terminal to buy, and nothing is marked up.
Tablets
- An Android tablet with Google services, running Android 8.0 or newer.
- One tablet is enough to start: it can take orders and show the kitchen screen. Add a second tablet for the kitchen or a second register as you grow — DineStack is built for one to six devices per location.
- The same app runs the register and the kitchen screen; you choose what each tablet is for.
- Keep the tablet on power and on your restaurant’s Wi-Fi. It keeps working if the internet drops — see Working offline.
Printers and cash drawers
Receipts show on the register screen, with a QR code the guest can scan, and print from the owner console (Orders → the order → Show receipt → Print) to any printer your computer can reach. Printing straight from the register to a receipt printer: coming soon. A cash drawer opens through the receipt printer it is plugged into, so it arrives with register printing.
Card readers
Card payments run on your own card processing account: set it up in the owner console under Money → Payment setup, then pair your card reader to the register over Bluetooth. The reader is shipped to you directly — DineStack takes $0 from your card processing.
Barcode scanners
Any USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that works like a keyboard (it types the code and presses Enter) works with the register. First give each item its code: in the owner console open Menu, click the item’s Barcode box and scan the item’s label (or type the digits under the bars), then Save. On the register tap Scan: the search bar changes to Scanner ready. Each scan adds the item, or says why it did not (no item has that code, or the item is 86’d). Tap Stop scan to search by name again. Scanning works offline. A scanned item with options opens its options first, like a tap. Needs the latest DineStack app on the register.
